The Importance of a College Education

In today’s society, many people believe that earning a college education is overrated. This is completely untrue. In fact, people who earn college degrees earn almost double the salary of those without a college education, according to the US Census Bureau.  Unfortunately, all the negative reports in the news lately about college students not being able to find good paying jobs upon graduation has discouraged some high school students from applying to college. Many people fail to realize that having a college degree will always be an important accomplishment regardless of what condition the economy is in.  There will always be a high demand for college educated workers. In this article, we will discuss the benefits of having a college education in today’s world.

Job Availability and Getting a College Degree

Several years ago, many job applicants were able to find decent paying jobs that didn’t necessarily require a college degree. Today, however, many of these jobs no longer exist either because they have been replaced by modern technology or the position requires one to have a college degree.

Better Salary and a Better Life for Those Who go to College

The US Census Bureau’s 2007 reported the annual median income of workers without college degrees earned only $32,500, those with bachelor’s degrees earned $42,000 and master’s degree level employees earned $63,000+.   Statistics also show that people who earn college degrees tend to manage their finances better and live healthier lives.  Additionally, college educated employees tend to have access to better health benefits, retirement benefits and they are more likely to be promoted to higher paying positions within a company or organization.

Competition in the Workplace

As competition in the business world increases daily, employers will continue to invest their money on hiring and training the best employees available. A company is more likely to achieve their bottom line when they have a staff of college educated workers who are well trained in their position. When it comes down to hiring an employee to fill a position, employers tend to hire college educated applicants over non-educated applicants.

Is the Cost of Going to College Worth it?

Oftentimes, students will drop plans to go to college because of the cost. The cost of going to college is a major determining fact for many families, especially in today’s feeble economy.  There is no doubt that college can be expensive. In reality, however, it will cost them in the long run if they don’t go to college.

The good news is, there are many options available for students today such as student loans, grants and even payment plans. There are also various ways of earning a degree that costs less money than going the traditional route.  All it takes is a little research and determination to find out the options available.

Lastly, going to college should never be placed on the back burner. How important it is is underscored by the fact that more jobs will be available to those who have a college education, especially these days when the workplace has become more competitive than ever. The attitude that every high school student should possess is — it’s now or never.””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””
